Privacy policy
What happens to your data when you visit this site, sign up, book a call or work with me. In plain English, wherever you are in the world.
The short version
- No analytics, no advertising trackers, and no cookies set by this site.
- Fonts and images are hosted on this site itself, so no font services are contacted.
- Your data is only collected when you choose to share it: by signing up for the newsletter, booking a call, emailing me or becoming a client.
- I never sell your data, and I only share it with the services I need to run my practice. Those are listed below.
Who is responsible
This website and my coaching practice are run by:
Jessica Steffen & Co. LLC6545 Market Ave N, Suite 100
Canton, OH 44721
USA
Email: jessica@jessicasteffen.com
For any question about your data, email me. I'll reply personally.
One standard for everyone
My clients live all over the world, and privacy laws differ from country to country. Rather than treat people differently depending on where they live, I apply the standard of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), one of the strictest in the world, to everyone. If you're in the EU or the UK, the GDPR or UK GDPR also applies to you by law.
Visiting this website
Hosting
This website is hosted by Netlify, Inc. (USA). When you open a page, your browser automatically sends technical information to Netlify's servers: your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, the referring page, and your browser and operating system. This is needed to deliver the website securely and protect it from abuse. Netlify keeps these server logs only briefly. See Netlify's privacy policy.
The quiz
The quiz runs entirely in your browser. Your answers are not sent to me or anyone else, and they're gone when you close the page.
Links to social media
This site links to my Instagram and LinkedIn profiles using plain links, not embedded plugins. No data goes to Meta or LinkedIn just because you visit this site. Only when you click through do their own privacy policies apply.
The newsletter
If you sign up, I use your email address to send you my newsletter, based on your consent. You'll receive an email asking you to confirm, and you're only added once you click that link.
The newsletter is sent through Kit (ConvertKit LLC, USA), which stores your email address, the time you signed up and confirmed, and whether you open emails and click links, so I can see what's useful. The sign-up form loads a small script from Kit's servers, which means your IP address is transmitted to Kit when a page with the form loads. See Kit's privacy policy.
You can unsubscribe at any time with the link at the bottom of every email. Your address is then removed from the list.
Booking a call
Free calls are booked through Google Calendar appointment scheduling and take place on Google Meet, both provided by Google. When you book, Google processes the name and email address you enter along with the booking details, and I receive them so we can meet. See Google's privacy policy.
Emailing me
My email runs on Google Workspace. If you write to me, I use what you send only to answer you and to keep a record of our conversation.
If you become a client
To coach you, I process your contact details, scheduling and payment information, and the notes I take on our sessions. What you tell me in a session stays between us. My notes are for our work together, and I don't share them with anyone.
Between sessions, we stay in touch on WhatsApp (part of Meta). Messages there are end-to-end encrypted, but WhatsApp does process metadata and your phone number. If you'd rather not use WhatsApp, tell me and we'll find another way.
I keep client records for as long as we work together, and afterwards only as long as tax and accounting rules require.
International transfers
My business is a US company, and some of the services above are based in the USA, so your data may be processed there. Where data comes from the EU or UK, it is protected either through the provider's certification under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework (and its UK extension) or through standard contractual clauses.
How long I keep your data
Only as long as it's needed for the purpose it was collected for. Newsletter data until you unsubscribe, booking and email data for as long as our conversation needs it, and client records as described above. After that, it's deleted unless the law requires me to keep it longer.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask me to:
- show you the personal data I hold about you
- correct it, or delete it
- restrict how it's used, or object to a particular use
- send it to you in a portable format
- stop using it where you gave consent, such as for the newsletter
Just email me. If you're in the EU or UK, you also have the right to complain to the data protection authority where you live or work.
Changes
If anything about how I handle data changes, I'll update this page.
